The World Champion Young Butcher competition showcases the industry's rising stars, providing an international platform for exceptional young butchers to demonstrate their technical ability, creativity and innovation.
Created for butchers aged 35 and under, the competition celebrates those shaping the future of the profession while offering the opportunity to compete against the world's finest young talent.
Whether selected through your national competition or nominated by your country's industry body, this is your chance to earn global recognition and compete for the title of World Champion Young Butcher.
About the Competition
Rising Talent. Global Recognition.
The World Champion Young Butcher (WCYB) competition celebrates emerging talent, giving the world's best young butchers the opportunity to compete individually on the international stage and gain global recognition.
Competitors have 2 hours and 30 minutes to transform a beef rump on the bone, side of lamb, loin of pork and two chickens into a themed display made up of compulsory products alongside their own value-added creations.
Eligibility
To enter the World Champion Young Butcher competition, entrants must:
Be 35 years of age or younger at the time of competition.
Typically be selected through a national competition or nominated by a recognised industry organisation.
Competition Format
HOW IT WORKS
Each competitor will receive:
Beef rump (bone-in)
Side of lamb
Loin of pork (belly on, bone in)
Two whole chickens
Competitors have 2 hours and 30 minutes to produce a themed display demonstrating advanced butchery techniques, commercial product development and presentation excellence.

Competitors are assessed against internationally recognised World Butchers' Challenge judging standards across:
Personal hygiene
Knives and equipment
Safety
Knife and rolling skills
Primal utilisation and value adding
Speed and efficiency
Health and safety
Creativity and innovation
Display presentation
Saleability
Cookability
Judging is based on three key areas:
Individual Assessment (15%)
Technical Assessment (35%)
Product & Display Assessment (50%)

AUD $2000 per individual
PAYMENT SCHEDULE
To confirm your place in the 2028 World Butchers’ Challenge, entry fees are payable in three instalments across the lead-up to the event.
25% deposit due by 31 September 2026
50% instalment due by December 31 2026
Final 25% balance due by 31 July 2027
