Paris to welcome world's top butchers in 2025

The countdown to the World Butchers’ Challenge (WBC) has officially begun, with the culinary capital of Paris, France chosen to host the hotly anticipated event in March 2025. Branded by many as the ‘Olympics of Meat’, the ninth WBC will be fittingly held at Paris Arena Sud 6, part of the impressive Paris Expo Exhibition Centre, currently gearing up to host the world’s best handballers and weightlifters at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

WBC - cancelled for now but we'll be back.

It is time for us to make the official announcement. That the World Butchers' Challenge new date (August 2021) has also been cancelled. After much consultation with our community, suppliers and host we’ve made the call to cancel until such time that global travel becomes more certain and safe.

Butchers do ZOOM

There’s one thing that’s certain at the moment and that is, ironically, wherever we are in the world, the feeling of uncertainty is mutual. However, I’d also argue that disruption has been a key word in the vocabulary of those working in the meat industry for a very long time. And whilst COVID-19 is in so many ways unlike anything we’ve faced before, the fact it’s forcing us to do things differently, and rise to challenges we didn’t know we were going to face a few months ago, is something I think we’re all extremely familiar with.

Coronavirus: Update

We understand that the outbreak has caused significant concerns for many of our community in regards to international travel and the status of the 2020 World Butchers’ Challenge, scheduled for September 4 & 5 in Sacramento, California. The situation is a rapidly evolving issue and unfortunately it is not possible to predict what will happen in the coming weeks and months. It is too early to say how long the disruption to international visitation is likely to last and how long the recovery period might be.

The World Butchers’ Challenge, referred to by many as the ‘Olympics of Meat’ and by far, the largest meat competition on the globe, offers an opportunity for brands to carve a name for themselves like no other. The 2020 competition promises to be the biggest yet, being held at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento with an audience of over 5,000 anticipated to witness the battle first-hand and thousands of engaged others watching from afar.
