The World Butchers’ Challenge, referred to by many as the ‘Olympics of Meat’ and by far, the largest meat competition on the globe, offers an opportunity for brands to carve a name for themselves like no other.

The 2020 competition promises to be the biggest yet, being held at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento with an audience of over 5,000 anticipated to witness the battle first-hand and thousands of engaged others watching from afar.

As the ultimate mash-up of passion, sport, food, skill, tension, rivalry and camaraderie it should be noted that it’s not just butchers wanting a ‘steak’ in the event but foodies, chefs, media, farmers and the full supply chain.

Although the World Butchers’ Challenge has quickly developed a cult following and has been touted as the pinnacle of industry excellence, being a relatively new event means the timing to get involved has never been better.

This event is growing at lightning speed and each day - new doors are opened in terms of opportunity for expansion. We still have the ability to flesh out partnerships that can be adapted to suit specific needs for organisations with the right fit. This is the time to scope out what that looks like, before this rocketship of ours truly takes off.
— Rod Slater, WBC Chairman

Whilst the event has become a beast in itself, the World Butchers’ Challenge is now more than just a two-day spectacle, rather it’s a global community of butchers with an ethos based on learning, sharing and fostering a great good for the industry.

The competition is conducted over a three hour and fifteen-minute period with 16 international teams of six given a selection of carcasses which they must then transform into a themed display of value-added products. Independent judges score each team based on technique & skill, workmanship, product innovation, overall finish and presentation.

Tiered levels of partnerships are available and in addition, the following areas are open for ownership or sponsorship:

  • World Butchers’ Challenge All Stars Team – the best six butchers from the competition are announced as an International ‘All Stars Team’ and will hold that title until the following competition in 2022.

  • World Champion Butcher Apprentice and Young Butcher competition – the curtain raiser competition, these two categories are modelled on the World Butchers’ Challenge, with individual competitors working to a shorter timeframe.

  • World’s Best Pork Product; World’s Best Lamb Product; World’s Best Beef Product; World’s Best Chicken Product

  • World’s Best Burger

  • Sponsorship of the Awards Dinner
